Growing your own
Growing your own fruit and veg is so satisfying and the rewards are great!! There is nothing better than going out into your garden or allotment and digging up fresh veggies, knowing that all your hard work has paid off. Nothing tastes better and you can't get any fresher than fruit and vegetables that are home grown. Fruit picked at the right time, ripe and juicy is so much more superior to most bought fruit, which has to be picked unripe if it's to travel well, that it is as a new taste experience. Even if it's just a small bed or container of potatoes you grow, we recommend it. You will be rewarded with tasty fresh produce and it's not as hard as you might think.
You don't need a huge garden or allotment, just a small patch or a couple of containers will do. Not only is growing your own fruit and veg great fun and very rewarding, it can also save you money. Now that can't be bad!! We were amazed how well we did the first year, considering we only planted some potatoes that we had that had started sprouting!! When we saw them start shooting and how easy they sprouted, we got hooked and had a go at a few other plants. We bought some courgette seeds and potted them up, at the time we didn't have a greenhouse, so we kept them in our back bedroom until it was warm enough to plant them out in the veg plots. Now we have the gardening bug and we are having more fun than we ever imagined we would!!
About Us
Hello and welcome to Plotting Success. We have dedicated this site to our garden trials and tribulations. My name is Sue and my partner in crime is Ian and we are novices at growing our own fruit and veg. After not knowing what to do with our garden, that had been looking like a waste land for a number of years we decided in 2007 to see how easy, or hard it would be to grow something that we could eat. We had been told that anyone can grow potatoes so we thought we would give it a go. We planted up some old sprouting spuds and watched them as they started to grow. Seeing those first shoots appear from those old potatoes was great. We would go out into the garden (which used to be a rare thing!!) every day to see how they were getting along. We couldn't wait to see if there were any potatoes on the ends of those plants.
That feeling of anticipation the first time we went out to dig them up was great and when we started digging and there were actual potatoes on the ends, gave us an amazing sense of achievement and satisfaction. We have now got the bug and have more plots to grow lots of different veg. We have also branched out and decided to keep some chickens to add some more interest to our garden and supply us in fresh eggs!! This page is our diary and we will keep updating it on our successes and failures, hopefully more success than failure but as we are beginners it's all trial and error but we are having fun and our garden is looking much better!!
